Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also...  No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

Matthew 6:19-21 & 24

Godliness with contentment is great gain.  For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

1 Timothy: 6:6-10

The Bible mentions money and possessions 2,350 times! Jesus spoke about it more than anything else. Why do you think our relationship with money and possessions is SO IMPORTANT to our spiritual discipleship and personal wellbeing?

What wisdom does this passage from Matthew 6 teach you about how to relate to money? And is there anything about it that you find personally challenging?

Pete suggested 4 Keys to get right with money. Let’s chat about each of these. For each key, think about the questions, ‘What have I learned about this?’ and ‘What do I want to learn or experience about this?’

DEAL WITH DEBT

BE CONTENT

Pray for one another.

Lord, thank you for blessing me with so much stuff – a phone in my pocket, food on my table, clothes on my back. I give back to you today, what you have given to me. I ask you to teach me to trust you and to be content. I confess my selfishness, covetousness, and greed. I choose to invest myself in heaven not on earth. I break the power of materialism in my life. I will not serve money, I will serve you. I will not worry about money, I will trust you. I will not love money, I will love you.

Amen.
